TENTATIVE ITINERARY:

Day One -

Board your LUXURY MOTOR COACH and travel to infamous GETTYSBURG, PA. Check in to the Best Western Hotel Gettysburg, offering comfortable accommodations and warm hospitality! Adjacent to America's most historic battlefields and sites, this brand-new hotel provides beautifully designed and well-appointed rooms. Refresh before heading out to the oldest museum in Gettysburg, THE JENNIE WADE HOUSE! Learn the story of the only civilian to be killed during the Battle of Gettysburg. Authentically furnished from cellar to attic, the house is a shrine to Jennie and to life during the American Civil War. Just 20 years old at the time of the Battle, Jennie was kneading dough in the kitchen when a rifle bullet pierced two doors and claimed her life. Artifacts from that fatal day in 1863 are on display as well, including the artillery shell that punctured the roof of the house and a floorboard with Jennie’s blood still on it. Will a visitor capture a glimpse of Jennie still in t he kitchen?

Next, enjoy a farm to table dining experience in a historic tavern, MANSION HOUSE 1757. You'll enjoy a tossed salad with Chablis dressing, chicken breast caprese or beef bourguignon, vegetable medley, au gratin potatoes and Dutch Crumb Cobbler. Fabled to be frequented by spooks and specters, maybe leave a seat at the table open for an other-worldly diner.

Entree Choices at the Mansion House 1757:

  • Chicken Caprese
  • Beef bourguignon

Day Two -

After an INCLUDED BUFFET BREAKFAST, depart for the GETTYSBURG VISITORS CENTER AND THE MUSEUM OF THE CIVIL WAR. Featuring items from one of the largest collections of Civil War relics in the world, this museum is sure to please. The exhibit galleries and interactive programs take the viewer through the causes of the Civil War to its bloody end, with extensive displays on the battle of Gettysburg and the personalities who served in the armies as well as the civilians who experienced war on their doorsteps. View the 20-minute film “A New Birth of Freedom”.

Lunch will be on your own today in the on-site Civil War Era Saloon before our BATTLEFIELD TOUR. experience countless stories and breathtaking landmarks, terrain, vistas and monuments with a Licensed Battlefield Guide, who is licensed by the National Park Service as a historic interpreter of the major events of the three-day Battle of Gettysburg. The Guide will board and lead the group back in history on a two-hour tour covering approximately 25 miles of the historic Battlefield.

The next stop will be BEYOND THE BATTLE, an interactive museum. These exhibits tell the remarkable story of ordinary eyewitnesses and their extraordinary experiences before, during, and after the Civil War. Through twelve interactive exhibit galleries packed with rare artifacts, the museum explores the story of Gettysburg like you've never seen or heard it before. Caught in the Crossfire, the museum’s premier exhibit, is an immersive experience that uses cutting-edge technology to place visitors inside a meticulously reconstructed farmhouse during the Battle of Gettysburg. Visitors will see, hear, and feel what it was like for one Gettysburg family to be overrun by invading forces and trapped behind enemy lines. A scary experience…

Tonight, AN INCLUDED DINNER BUFFET will be at THE DOBBIN HOUSE. The offerings this evening include a lavish 25 item salad bar and fresh baked breads. Entrée selections of chicken coq au vin, baked ham with pineapple raisin sauce and stuffed shells with tomato sauce will be available. Vegetables include rice pilaf, oven roasted potatoes, buttered dilled carrots and green beans almondine. Desserts include fudge brownies, blueberry trifle, gingerbread with lemon sauce and colonial pudding cake.

Finally, a frightful cap to the day will be your GHOSTS OF GETTYSBURG EXPERIENCE. Your walking tour begins in the courtyard of the haunted Ghosts of Gettysburg Walking Tours® Headquarters-where disembodied voices have been recorded and a child has been spotted…a century after his death. Visit the County Courthouse that witnessed the battle and was filled to over-flowing with wounded soldiers…and now holds visitors from another world. See the church where so many amputations occurred, they had to drill holes in the floor to let the blood run out and where a spectral undertaker continues to walk to the nearby cemetery…removed decades ago. This walking tour will cover three-quarters of a mile… if you dare.

Day Three - AN INCLUDED BREAKFAST will get us ready for our trip home. We will depart to return to the Rochester region, with a lunch-on-own stop at FRY BROTHERS TURKEY RANCH where the vittles are scary good!
