TENTATIVE ITINERARY:

Day One – Sunday, May 17, 2026: Depart from your hometown and travel to your overnight stop for lodging (pack an overnight bag); dinner is on your own this evening.


Day Two – Monday, May 18, 2026: Following breakfast, check out and continue traveling to the OUTER BANKS OF NORTH CAROLINA. This thin strip of barrier islands is 200 miles long and juts out into the Gulf Stream of the Atlantic Ocean, bringing temperate climates and sea life to the region. A late afternoon arrival on the Outer Banks finds you checking into your hotel, then prepare for dinner and a relaxing evening.


Day Three – Tuesday, May 19, 2026: Enjoy breakfast, then depart for a visit to the WRIGHT BROTHERS NATIONAL MEMORIAL. The Visitors Center has a full-scale replica of the original plane, as well as exhibits and talks on history of the Wright Brothers. The Centennial Pavilion houses exhibits dealing with the Outer Banks at the turn-of- the-century, the evolution of aviation, the challenges of flight and NASA-sponsored exhibits. In the afternoon, depart for Manteo and ELIZABETHAN GARDENS where history, mystery and fantasy are combined. The gardens are a memorial to the first English colonists and Queen Elizabeth I. Afterwards, proceed to nearby ROANOKE ISLAND FESTIVAL PARK, a living history museum which brings to life the 16th-century colony through interactive exhibits and displays. You will even find the a recreation of the ELIZABETH II, the ship which brought England’s first colonists to the New World. Also included is the Settlement Site, the ROANOKE ADVENTURE MUSEUM, the American Indian Town, the Legend of Two Path film and more. Once again, dinner will be provided at a restaurant in the area.


Day Four – Wednesday, May 20, 2026: After breakfast, depart with your guide for a tour of CAPE HATTERAS NATIONAL SEASHORE. Included with be a stop at the BODIE ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE for a perimeter tour and photo opportunity. Later, visit CAPE HATTERAS LIGHTHOUSE where you may view the tallest brick lighthouse on the American Coast, and also the tallest brick structure ever moved to another location. There will be time to explore the VISITOR'S CENTER, then continue to the Hatteras Ferry Docks where you can enjoy lunch on your own. In the afternoon, visit THE GRAVEYARD OF THE ATLANTIC MUSEUM, one of the finest, most innovative maritime facilities in the nation. The waters off North Carolina’s Outer Banks entomb thousands of vessels and countless mariners who lost a desperate struggle against the forces of war, piracy and nature, thus becoming known as The Graveyard of the Atlantic. Also included is a visit to the LOST COLONY MUSEUM where you will learn the history of the Native Hatteras people, the Croatoan. Learn about their way of life and see original artwork demonstrating how they lived, fished, hunted, and gardened. Learn some of the Algonquian language. After your visit, return to your hotel to freshen up before departing for dinner at one of the area’s popular restaurants.


Day Five – Thursday, May 21 2026: Following breakfast, check out and depart for overnight lodging (pack an overnight bag) where you will check in and prepare for dinner on your own in the area.


Day Six – Friday, May 22 2026: Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then check out and prepare for your departure home. Arrive home with lasting memories of the OUTER BANKS OF NORTH CAROLINA.
