TENTATIVE ITINERARY:

ALL ABOARD!  Breathtaking fall colors provide the backdrop for a wonderful Columbus Day overnight excursion to Scranton, PA - a train and trolly lovers paradise!

Day One - Sunday, October 10, 2026: As we depart and leave our hometowns behind, we will have a brief comfort stop along the way as we head to our destination city, SCRATON, PA.  We arrive just in time for lunch on your own at THE MARKETPLACE AT STEAMTOWN. Following lunch, we will spend the afternoon at THE ELECTRIC CITY TROLLEY MUSEUM and have an in-depth look at the history of the legendary trolleys of the region.  Our visit here ends with a trolly ride.  Then it is time to check into our hotel for the evening, the SCRANTON HILTON. After checking and time to freshen up for dinner, we will depart for an INCLUDED PLATED DINNER at AMADEO’S ITALIAN RESTAURANT

Day Two – Monday, October 11, 2026: This morning we will enjoy a hot breakfast at the hotel before checking out of our hotel.  We arrive at STEAMTOWN USA as the doors open to step back in time and experience how steam-powered engines drove the industrial revolution. This NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE is a RAILROAD MUSEUM AND HERITAGE RAILROAD located on 62.48 acres in downtown Scranton, Pennsylvania, at the site of the former Scranton yards of the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad. The museum is built around a working turntable and a roundhouse that are largely replications of the original DL&W facilities. The site also features several original outbuildings dated between 1899 and 1902. Most of the steam locomotives and other railroad equipment at Steamtown NHS were originally collected by F. Nelson Blount, a millionaire seafood processor from New England. Our visit here also includes a SHORT TRAIN RIDE.

We will return to THE STEAMTOWN MARKETPLACE for a quick bite on your own, before arriving at THE LACKAWANNA COAL MINE TOUR.  Here you will Descend slowly into the earth in a mine car as you enter the old Slope #190.  Watch the sky slowly disappear as you descend 300 feet beneath the earth through an anthracite coal mine originally opened in 1860.  Accompany a miner in the winding underground gangways and rock tunnel past three different veins of hard coal, past the mule boy and the nipper, past the monkey vein and the dead chute. Listen as he explains the fascinating methods used, and the heroic efforts involved, in deep mining’s history!  As we leave Scranton behind, we will enjoy a comfort stop in route, as we take in the fall scenes on our drive home.
