Day One – Saturday, May 21: Travel south through Pennsylvania and into West Virginia. Our stopping point for the night will be Beckley, WV, where we will visit the Tamarack Market Place. The Tamarack Market Place is a regional showcase of products from over 2,800 artists and artisans from all fifty-five counties of “The Mountain State.” You can choose to have your dinner at their on-site restaurant or wait until after check-in and dine at one of the eateries near the hotel. Lunch and dinner are on your own today. Please plan to pack a small overnight bag for tonight, so your large bag can stay on the coach for our short overnight.
Day Two – Sunday, May 22: Breakfast is provided daily throughout the tour. After check-out, we’ll continue our journey south over the Appalachian Mountains and into Virginia and then North Carolina before making our way down through the low country of South Carolina. We will check-in to the Hotel Indigo Charleston, our base for the next two nights, before going to our included dinner at the family-owned Charleston Crab House.
Day Three – Monday, May 23: Today, we begin our sightseeing at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, where we will learn about the Drayton family and the more than three centuries of history on the site. A guided tour will showcase ten rooms of the home and highlight family heirlooms as you are presented with a historically inclusive viewpoint of all aspects of plantation life. Following the house tour, an included Nature Tram tour will cover the highlights of the plantation’s 600 plus acres of wildlife habitats and gardens. It is a great way to give your feet a rest while enjoying the area in an entertaining and educational way.
Next, we will travel to downtown Charleston to the City Market, where you can enjoy time for shopping and a light lunch on your own. After lunch, we are slowing down the pace and taking in the city on a horse drawn carriage ride through Historic Downtown Charleston. After an early “Low Country” style dinner, we will conclude our day with a Charleston Harbor sunset cruise.
Day Four – Tuesday, May 24: After breakfast, we will check-out and make our way to the nearby Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens, which is famous for its iconic moss covered live oak lined entrance. We will have tours of both the house and gardens. Next, we will travel northeast through the low country to Brookgreen Gardens. Here, we will enjoy our included lunch before an afternoon filled with a guided tour of the sculpture park, a pontoon ride through the low country marsh and a presentation on the Gullah Geechee people. Following our visit to Brookgreen Gardens, we will have dinner at Murrells Inlet’s premier waterfront dining experience – Wicked Tuna, then check-in to our beachfront hotel in Myrtle Beach.
Day Five – Wednesday, May 25: Today, breakfast and dinner are included, but the bulk of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure. After four full days of travel and cultural sightseeing, you can relax by the pool, walk the beach, catch a nap, or do all three! A shuttle service will be offered to the nearby Barefoot Landing shops for those that wish to get in a little retail therapy or enjoy lunch on your own. Dinner tonight will be at Benjamin’s Calabash Seafood, where you will enjoy a full seafood buffet surrounded by a nautical museum. After dinner we are off to Alabama Theatre for their grand variety show, “ONE the Show”.
Day Six – Thursday, May 26: This morning, you might want to get up early and take a sunrise stroll along the beach before we start our journey home. After breakfast, we will check-out and head north through North Carolina and into Virginia. We will make stops for your comfort and lunch on your own along the way. Dinner will be included near our overnight hotel in Chantilly, VA. Please plan to pack a small overnight bag for tonight, so your large bag can stay on the coach for our short overnight.
Day Seven – Friday, May 27: Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before checkout. After, we’ll depart for home with comfort stops and lunch on your own along the way.
