TENTATIVE ITINERARY:

Day One - Monday, December 8: A morning departure from WNY has you heading west into the state of West Virginia.  Your destination today is WHEELING where you will take part in the FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS CELEBRATION.  Upon arrival you will check into your hotel and have an opportunity to become acquainted with your surroundings.  In the late afternoon, depart for OGLEBAY PARK FOR ADMISSION TO THE WINTER FANTASY DISPLAYS FEATURING A LASER LIGHT SHOW, MODEL TRAIN EXHIBIT, GINGERBREAD HOUSES AND A MINIATURE HOLIDAY VILLAGE.  After your visit, enjoy an evening of food, fun and HOLIDAY ENTERTAINMENT WITH A LOCAL CHRISTMAS DINNER SHOW.  Directly following the show, meet your guide for a tour through OGLEBAY PARK’S FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS with OVER HALF A MILLION LIGHTS, COVERING MORE THAN 300 ACRES OF CHRISTMAS THEMES, LIGHTED TREES, FLOODED LANDSCAPES AND LIGHT-ENHANCED HISTORICAL OGLEBAY BUILDINGS.

Day Two - Tuesday, December 9: Enjoy BREAKFAST, then it is time to depart for OGLEBAY PARK.  Upon arrival, you will enjoy a GUIDED TOUR OF COLONEL OGLEBAY’S MANSION MUSEUM, elegantly decorated for the holiday season. Featuring a different theme each year, the MANSION SPARKLES WITH ORIGINAL DESIGNS AND THE WYMER GENERAL STORE EXHIBIT IS FILLED WITH THOUSANDS OF ITEMS FROM THE PAST.  Your next stop is the GLASS MUSEUM & ARTISAN CENTER.  Housed in the former carriage house, this unique complex features over 3,000 examples of Wheeling glass from 1829-1939 along with the Sweeney Punch Bowl – the largest piece of cut lead crystal ever made.  After your visit, head for downtown Wheeling where you can enjoy lunch on your own at historic Centre Market, before visiting the WEST VIRGINIA INDEPENDENCE HALL which was built as a custom house, post office and courthouse and later became the center of government for the Restored Government of Virginia (1861-1863) which later became West Virginia. It is architecturally significant for its innovative uses of wrought iron as a framing material, and is historically significant for its role in the American Civil War. It housed the Wheeling Convention (1861), as well as the West Virginia Constitutional Convention (1863), which resulted in the separation of Unionist Virginia from Confederate Virginia. This made it the only state to secede from a Confederate state during the war. THE BUILDING IS NOW A STATE-RUN MUSEUM, HOUSING EXHIBITS ON WEST VIRGINIA HISTORY.  From here you will continue to WHEELING ISLAND RACETRACK & GAMING CENTER where you will receive a BONUS PACKAGE with Players Club Card registration.  You will have an opportunity to try your hand at the games of chance in the casino. There will be plenty of time to enjoy the complex and dinner is on your own at the casino.

Day Three - Wednesday, December 10: After BREAKFAST, this morning, check out and depart for the KRUGER STREET TOY & TRAIN MUSEUM. Located in a restored Victorian schoolhouse, the fascinating and fun collection is dedicated to the history of toys, miniature trains and the child in all of us.  Following your visit you will board your motorcoach and depart for home with fond memories of Wheeling’s Festival of Lights. We will make a lunch and comfort stop en route with an early evening arrival in WNY.
