Commemorate America's Birthday in Washington DC, our Nation's Capital! Take in the sights and sounds as we celebrate old traditions and honor our past during this three-day star-spangled salute. On our way south, stops will be made for your comfort and lunch on your own. DINNER is included at a local restaurant after checking into our suburban Fairfax, VA hotel.
Wednesday, July 3, 2024: After BREAKFAST, a LICENSED DC GUIDE will join the group for two days of local touring. The first stop is the sacred grounds of ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY - America's shrine to valor and sacrifice. During your visit a tram will take you to JFK's gravesite and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Next, we will transfer to the NATIONAL MALL for the SMITHSONIAN FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL. Experience living traditions from around the world and immerse yourself in musical cultures as you explore the mall or one of the adjacent SMITHSONIAN MUSEUMS. DINNER is included at a local restaurant en route to the hotel.
Thursday, July 4, 2024: After BREAKFAST, a day of festivities awaits us as we meet up with our LOCAL GUIDE for the day. We will start our day with a LIVE MUSICAL PERFORMANCE BY BRASS CONNECTION on the steps of the NATIONAL ARCHIVES. Then the traditions continue with the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE READING CEREMONY on the same steps. Highlights of the ceremony include a presentation of colors by the CONTINENTAL COLOR GUARD, a performance by the FIFE AND DRUM CORPS, and a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence by reenactors portraying historical characters, including Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Abigail Adams, and more. A BOXED LUNCH will be delivered to us to be enjoyed during the NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE! In the afternoon we will make stops at THE VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL, THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL, THE KOREAN WAR VETERANS MEMORIAL, and THE NATIONAL WORLD WAR II MEMORIAL. To finish the festive day, view the magnificient 4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS from an ODYSSEY CITY CRUISE. Enjoy DINNER, DANCING, AND FIREWORKS from the outdoor decks and inside air-conditioned viewing. Sail along the Potomac River and see the historic and famous sites of our Nation's Capital from a different perspective.
Friday, July 5, 2024: After BREAKFAST, we journey south to the estate of George Washington - MOUNT VERNON. During your visit, enjoy the museum and education center in addition to touring inside the mansion. Following the visit, you will have free time for lunch on your own in OLD TOWN ALEXANDRIA. This afternoon you will enjoy a GUIDED WALKING TOUR that highlights the history and colonial charms of Alexandria. A visit to the TORPEDO FACTORY ART CENTER is included before concluding with a FAREWELL DINNER at local favorite - The Fish Market in Old Town.
Saturday, July 6, 2024: After BREAKFAST, check out and depart for home with renewed patriotism and pride in the founding of our great nation. Stops will be made en route for your comfort and lunch on your own.
