Welcome to Vacationland! Your first stop is Maine’s southernmost lighthouse in Cape Neddick. Stretch your legs and take in the picturesque view and salt air at the Nubble Light. Enjoy a welcome reception upon arrival at your south coast Maine resort in Ogunquit, Maine. Settle into the comforts of the Meadowmere Resort with indoor pool, Jacuzzi, pub and Movie Theater. The hotel is within walking distance of the Marginal Way shoreline path and Ogunquit shops.  Meet the Maine Lobsterette who will provide a souvenir “Moosin’ Hat” for each passenger, along with walking maps for the villages you’ll be visiting. Dinner included this evening at a local favorite.                                      


Friday, September 27, 2024: Breakfast included this morning at the restaurant next door to the resort. Travel through nearby Perkins Cove with its charming drawbridge, then north to the heart of Maine’s pristine seacoast region-Kennebunkport. Meet your local guide in Kennebunkport for a guided tour of this former shipbuilding town. View the sandy beaches, rocky coastline, Dock Square, the ornate “Wedding Cake House,” former President Bush’s summer estate and tour the seaside Franciscan Monastery. Board a special one hour, narrated lobstering cruise. Learn how the Maine lobstermen make their living as traps are hauled from the ocean along the rocky coast of Kennebunkport. See the sights as you cruise on the ocean past Walkers Point, the Dark Shadows House and Bumpkin Island, home to a year-round colony of sea birds and seals. Lunch on your own in Kennebunkport with coach parking included near Dock Square. Travel to Portland this afternoon to meet your local guide for a guided tour of Portland, Maine’s largest city-by-the-sea. You’ll see views of Longfellow’s boyhood home, sea captain houses and the elegant Victoria Mansion as you drive through historic neighborhoods overlooking the islands of Casco Bay in Portland Harbor. Your tour includes a stop at Portland Head Lighthouse.  This historic landmark is the most photographed lighthouse in America, set in Fort Williams Park. Travel to mid-coast Maine this afternoon and check in to the Hampton Inn in Bath, Maine - the City of Ships. You’ll enjoy a two night stay here on the banks of the Kennebec River. The hotel features an indoor pool and waterfront park across the street in a charming New England village. A welcome reception is served on arrival.Roll up your sleeves for a Maine lobster dinner with all the fixin’s this evening just a few minutes from the hotel. Alternate menus are offered for any landlubbers (typically grilled chicken and a vegetarian option).


Saturday, September 28, 2024: Hampton breakfast included this morning before making your way to Boothbay Harbor, the boating capital of Maine. Board your Boothbay Harbor narrated cruise where you’ll cruise past beautiful coastal islands, picturesque lighthouses and out to see the seals on the ledges. Have lunch on your own in Boothbay Harbor along the picturesque waterfront which has retained the atmosphere of an old New England village. You'll have free time to explore the local galleries, boutiques and plenty of casual restaurants from which to choose. Make your way to the nearby Boothbay Railway Village. The museum represents a turn-of-the-20th-century Maine village containing railroad memorabilia, antique cars and trucks and such restored buildings as a blacksmith shop, red School house and general store as well as the 1847 Boothbay town hall, Freeport railway station and Spruce Point chapel. A train ride on a narrow-gauge passenger train and a behind-the-scenes Shop Tour to learn how the trains are restored are also included. Enjoy a Maine lobsterbake dinner s included this evening. Roll up your sleeves for this casual feast before returning to the hotel (BBQ chicken and vegetarian are optional entrees).


Sunday, September 29, 2024: Enjoy your breakfast before making your way to the mountains this morning. Visit the Maine Wildlife Park, a 200-acre park with over 30 different native species of wildlife on exhibit, including local moose, plus black bears, mountain lions, porcupines, nocturnal animals, coyotes, owls, eagles, trophy trout, fish hatchery, gift shop, and more! Have lunch on your own in Freeport with time to explore Freeport Village, home of sporting goods king, L.L. Bean and numerous outlet shops and restaurants. Sit back and relax for your journey to Maine’s western mountain village of Bethel this afternoon. Enroute, you’ll stop to visit Maine Balsam Fir Products, a small company that hand makes balsam-filled pillows and products. See the balsam grove and learn the start-to-finish process behind these handmade Maine specialty products. Enjoy the natural and healthy fragrance of balsam as you learn how the owners started their company, how the pandemic affected their business and where they are today.  You’ll walk along their property to the balsam fir grove, then tour the factory and learn how they continue to make balsam pillows and other products.  You’ll bring one of the sweet-smelling Balsam fir bags home as a souvenir. Head up the mountain for your accommodations tonight at a Sunday River Resort hotel. A welcome reception is provided upon arrival in the large, fire-placed lobby. Your mountainside hotel has a heated, indoor/outdoor pool, fitness center, steam room & spa, outdoor hot tub, wi-fi, and laundry service.  

Note: Couples will be given one bedded rooms due to the availability of two bedded rooms at resort.

Meet your local guide to “go moosin’” early evening– the best time to spot a moose! He will escort you to the most likely sites in Grafton Notch State Park area for spotting "the gentle giants". Photo stop at the Artist’s Covered Bridge. Dinner is included at the resort, followed by a campfire with s’mores!


Monday, September 30, 2024: Enjoy your breakfast and luggage loading. The Bethel area is known for its famous mineral mines. Roll up your sleeves for a hands-on sluicing program. Pan for your own gems in a covered pavilion and keep what you find! Next, you’ll follow the fall color trail west to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, which will be turning red and gold for the foliage season. Travel past the classic Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods and through Crawford Notch with scenic overlooks. Stop for a photo of one of New Hampshire’s scenic covered bridges. In North Conway, the heart of Mt. Washington Valley, you’ll have some free time for tax-free shopping and lunch on own in the charming village – don’t miss the old-fashioned 5 & Dime store! Cross the Kancamagus Highway from Conway to Lincoln, which twists and turns through the spectacular White Mountain National Forest. Check in to your slope side accommodations at the Mountain Club on Loon in Lincoln, NH. The hotel is set on a bluff overlooking the Pemigewasset River (Pemi) River with indoor and outdoor pools, Jacuzzi and spectacular scenery. Double guest rooms have 1 queen & 1 double Murphy bed (will be set up prior to check in) or studio with kitchenette. No roll-in showers at this property but has rooms with extra grab bars and shower seats. Tonight you'll relive the romance of dining on the rails aboard the Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train.  Board a beautifully restored vintage Pullman railroad car and enjoy a leisurely two hour evening ride among the lush New England forest and magnificent mountain vistas accompanied by an elegant five course feast.
