TENTATIVE ITINERARY:

Tuesday, July 22, 2025: A morning departure from West Seneca and Williamsville has you heading for the Village of Clayton. Rest/coffee stop on your own will be made along the way. Arrive in the VILLAGE OF CLAYTON in for lunch on your own at one of the great eateries (you may want to choose a great Reuben featuring Thousand Island dressing). You will also have free time to explore this quaint village. A leisurely stroll down the main streets brings you to an array of unique shops, including clothing boutiques, jewelry shops, as well as shops offering 1000 Islands collectibles to take home as a keepsake. Be sure to look up while you stroll the main streets. The upper stories share attractive architectural features such as window crowns and cast-iron cornices. There’s intriguing history and charm of Claytons’ commercial buildings, homes, and churches. While in Clayton, visit 1000 ISLANDS RIVER RAT CHEESE (242 James Street), supplying much of New York State with its famous squeaky cheese curds, aged cheddars, flavored cheddars, specialty cheese spreads, croghan bologna, maple syrups and much more.  Visitors from all over have come to taste the famous “River Rat” cheese!  Here, you can find the “ORIGINAL” THOUSAND ISLANDS DRESSING, a great souvenir of your Thousand Islands excursion. In mid-afternoon you will depart Clayton and travel to Alexandria Bay, NY for lodging in the heart of the 1000 Islands resort area on the unspoiled shores of the St. Lawrence River. Arrive at the EDGEWOOD RESORT to check in for a TWO-NIGHT STAY. The Edgewood Resort is a lodge-style retreat offering a marina and balconied guestrooms on the water’s edge; it’s known for their great accommodations, hospitality and delicious food service. This evening you will enjoy a delicious BUFFET DINNER at the Resort.

Wednesday, July 23, 2025: Enjoy BREAKFAST at the hotel, then depart for the dock in downtown Alexandria Bay to board UNCLE SAM'S BOAT FOR A CRUISE ALONG THE ST. LAWRENCE RIVER AND TOURS OF TWO CASTLES. Your first stop will be at Dark Island for a 45-MINUTE TOUR OF SINGER CASTLE which was built by the Bourne Family in 1905. Your tour includes four floors featuring the Great Hall, Library, Dining Room, Breakfast Room, Terrace, Drawing Room, Wicker Room, Bedrooms, Guest Rooms and 4th floor Dormitory.  At noon, you will depart for BOLDT CASTLE as you cruise long the scenic St. Lawrence River. A boxed lunch will be provided (make a selection at reservation: turkey sandwich, roast beef sandwich, or ham sandwich).  Arrive on Heart Island for a SELF-GUIDED TOUR OF BOLDT CASTLE. The castle was built as a monument of love by George Boldt for his wife, Louise. It was designed as their summer dream home, as a castle rivaling those of Europe. However, it was not to be as Mrs. Boldt passed away suddenly just months before its completion. Construction stopped, leaving the property vacant for over 70 years. In mid-afternoon you will depart for your return to the Alexandria Bay where you will enjoy some free time exploring the town. Later, you will return to your hotel to freshen up before DINNER which is at the hotel. 

Thursday, July 24, 2025: After BREAKFAST at the hotel, check-out and depart for Clayton, NY to visit the ANTIQUE BOAT MUSEUM, the premier freshwater boating museum in North America with collections featuring over 320 unique boats and thousands of related artifacts and archives.  After your visit, depart for Alexandria Bay for lunch on your own at the NORTH COUNTRY WELCOME CENTER which houses Taste NY Market, featuring a broad selection of fresh made breakfast and lunch items, including snacks, salads, sandwiches and desserts with ingredients sourced from North Country growers and producers.  Specialty gift items are available for purchase. View the displays and explore at your own pace. In the afternoon you will visit the THOUSAND ISLANDS WINERY IN ALEXANDRIA BAY to include tastings.  Afterwards, depart for home with fond memories of your Castles of New York and 1000 Islands trip!
